RIGHT OF WAY Tap a siding to hold the next train · tap it again to send that train on

RIGHT OF WAY

Flip the switch to open the track and park the passing train, then flip it again to release back to the main line. Each decision you make will determine a success or a crash. The trains are always running and it is up to you to keep them running smoothly. This is a game of strategy and timing. You are the train control dispatcher. Can you handle the pressure of multiple trains, or will you crash and burn?

How to play

Trains come 1 at a time and drive on the same line. An arrow will indicate if the train is coming from the top or the bottom. Orange trains come from the bottom and green from the top. Click a side track to flip the switch that will move the tracks and park the next train to go past it. Click again to release the train back into the main line. Fail to hold a train while another one is coming in the opposite direction and you crash. You will need to predict and time out when you think the next train will go past. Click to release a held train to pass to free up that slot. If you do not wait until the train on the line fully crosses your path you may crash into it. After a short time there are trains with 2 cars. These trains can only be parked on the larger side tracks. Regular 1-car trains can also be held on the 2-car slots but they are best reserved for the larger trains.

Behind the game

I was watching an action packed movie that took place on a train and wanted to see how I could bring that to a game. I thought of other games that use supply runs and train mechanics. In keeping with the recent theme of strategy and thinking style games, the idea for a train dispatching game came to life. This game holds true as a GameMyself original that appears simple but is addictively challenging.

Hints

A common mistake is releasing the held train too early while another train is passing on the line. In photo 1 below you can see the orange train moving up the track. If you release the green train now, it will collide. You must wait for the orange train to fully pass the stop before releasing the green train onto the track. The train going to park also needs to be fully stopped to avoid a crash. In photo 2 you can see a green 2-car train coming down the track, but a 1-car train has taken up a spot. From where it is now it is bound to crash. Foresight and strategy should be used when parking trains and leaving a 2-car slot open is a good idea.

Right of Way mid-run: an orange train running north up the single main line, level with the fourth siding, where a green train is held on the open switch, and a blue arrow at the top of the line announcing the next train from that end.

Right of Way with nowhere left to put anything: a green two-car train running south down the main line, one long siding holding a single-car orange train, the other long siding holding a two-car green train, the short sidings too small to take either, and the arrow at the bottom of the line announcing a two-car train from the far end.
