FIRE BOY
You own a demolition company that takes down old buildings marked for destruction. Your construction equipment has all broken down and you have a deadline to meet. There is a local who loves to burn things. You hire Fire Boy to help get the job done. Don’t worry you can lead him, and if things get out of hand, he also has a water hose to stop the fire from spreading. Help save the day and guide Fire Boy to the buildings marked with an X.
How to play
The objective of the game is to burn down the buildings marked with an X. You can also burn other objects for fun but avoid torching the protected buildings. These are buildings with a light hue and a warning will appear on the screen if one is burning. You have 1 fuel tank that is the same tank for both fire and water. The tank will replenish itself over time and there are pickups on the floor for a quick refill. Once you light something, the fire will spread. The grass and other items are very flammable and it is best to be careful around protected houses. If you run into a lit fire you die right away and that level restarts. There are some levels with traps and you will need to use the water to put out a spreading fire. PC – WASD to move / Space for Fire, Shift for Water. Mobile – Tap and hold pointer finger to walk and tap fire or water to spray.
Behind the game
I recently learned about a friendly gaming competition called itch mini jams. I was excited to participate and submitted this game. The rules were intense. 3 days to make a brand new game with the theme of fire and the limitation of only using 3 colors. I had the idea of Fire Boy in my mind and had to work at making it fit into the site’s safety guidelines. I want no boring games, so there is no tutorial level just straight into the action. The version of the game for the jam is grayscale with amber and coral only. The published GameMyself original Fire Boy is here in full color.
Hints
Burn down buildings marked with an X. Some fires can spread to protected buildings. To put out these fires, you need to have enough fuel and put out the fire when it is isolated. Click water and spray the fire in its path to stop it. Some levels have a fire that has started on its own. You will see red indications any time a fire is live outside of your field of vision. If you need a quick fuel refill, there are small fill-ups that can be picked up on the floor.
